The science behind
far-infrared.

Researchers have studied far-infrared technologies for post-exercise recovery, skin microcirculation and tissue oxygenation. Here are several findings worth knowing.

Soreness was no longer significantly elevated at 72 hours with FIR-emitting clothing, but still was with placebo; jump and strength measures did not differ.

Passive far-infrared fabric, worn

What was studied
Twenty-one young male soccer players completed 100 drop jumps. Six hours later they put on either far-infrared-emitting clothing or identical placebo clothing, and were followed for 72 hours.
What researchers reported
Perceived muscle soreness was still significantly raised at 72 hours with placebo clothing but not with far-infrared clothing, with moderate-to-large effect sizes. Jump height, leg-press strength, creatine kinase and thigh circumference did not differ between groups.
Limitation
Twenty-one participants, and the difference was in perceived soreness only; no performance or muscle-damage marker differed. The fabric was worn as clothing after exercise, which is not how a mattress is used, and this is not a trial of Angel’s Dream.

What was studied
Ten recreationally active adults completed a resistance-exercise session, then wore either far-infrared-emitting tights or placebo tights. Jump performance, fatigue biomarkers and perceived recovery were tracked for 48 hours.
What researchers reported
The far-infrared group showed greater gains in jump height, take-off velocity and reactive strength at 48 hours, and reported feeling ready to resume activity sooner. Fatigue biomarkers did not differ between groups.
Limitation
Ten participants, five per group, in a study its authors call preliminary; it needs replication. The tights were worn after exercise, a different use from a mattress, and this is not a trial of Angel’s Dream.

FIR and skin microcirculation

With a far-infrared-emitting patch, forearm perfusion and skin oxygen use were higher than on untreated skin; the primary upper-back measure did not differ.

Passive far-infrared patch, worn on the skin

What was studied
Twenty healthy adults wore a passive patch designed to re-emit body heat as far-infrared on three body sites for 31 hours. Imaging compared perfusion, microcirculation, oxygen use and temperature on treated and untreated skin.
What researchers reported
The primary measure, perfusion on the upper back, did not differ. Forearm perfusion, skin oxygen consumption and skin temperature were higher on treated skin, and the vascular response was short-lived.
Limitation
The primary endpoint was not met; the positive results are secondary measures. A small open-label study of a patch worn on specific sites, sponsored by the patch’s manufacturer. It says nothing directly about a mattress or about Angel’s Dream.

What was studied
One hundred and fifty-three people wore a shirt made with far-infrared-emitting ceramic fabric and a standard polyester shirt for 90 minutes each, in randomized order, with transcutaneous oxygen (tcPO2) measured every 30 minutes.
What researchers reported
Whichever shirt was worn first, tcPO2 after 90 minutes in the ceramic-fabric shirt was 6.7% higher than after 90 minutes in polyester (p < 0.0003).
Limitation
tcPO2 is an oxygen reading at the skin surface, taken over a single 90-minute wear. The lead author is employed by the fabric’s maker. A shirt is a different product and use from a mattress, and this is not a trial of Angel’s Dream.

Angel’s Dream incorporates passive MedFIR materials. These studies examine related far-infrared technologies and are not clinical trials of the Angel’s Dream mattress.

Evidence strength varies. These are small studies of garments, fabric and a patch, and a 2021 systematic review of far-infrared garments in sport judged the overall evidence not yet conclusive.

No published clinical trial of the Angel’s Dream mattress itself has been identified.

Angel’s Dream is a consumer mattress. It is not a medical device, and it is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition.

Broader evidence

Most of that research uses active lasers or LEDs, or wearable far-infrared garments. None of it tests this mattress.

Passive far-infrared fabrics in sport

Passive far-infrared fabric, worn

What was studied
Eleven studies of clothing woven with far-infrared-emitting materials, worn by athletes before, during or after exercise. This is the delivery method closest to the materials in this mattress: a passive fabric, warmed by the body, with no power source.
What researchers reported
The authors judged the evidence inconclusive for both performance and recovery. The clearest early signals concerned thermoregulation and blood-flow measures rather than any training or recovery outcome.
Limitation
Few studies, measuring different outcomes with different methods, which is why the review could not reach a conclusion. Garments are also worn against the skin during activity, which is not how a mattress is used.

Whole-body light exposure and exercise outcomes

Active LED panels, whole body

What was studied
Five studies, 105 physically active participants, using powered red and near-infrared LED panels across the whole body before or after exercise.
What researchers reported
No benefit was reported for exercise performance or for recovery biomarkers. The review did note a possible effect on self-reported sleep quality, which the authors treat as preliminary.
Limitation
Only five studies, qualitative synthesis rather than meta-analysis, and an active powered light source throughout. None of it tests a passive material, and the sleep observation is preliminary and not a product claim.

Three recovery methods compared

Active laser or LED, applied to a specific muscle

What was studied
A meta-analysis across 672 healthy adults comparing photobiomodulation, pneumatic compression and electrical stimulation, applied locally before or after exercise.
What researchers reported
Photobiomodulation applied before exercise was associated with less muscle soreness and better performance at 24 hours. The authors rate that finding low-certainty. Compression and electrical stimulation applied afterwards showed no soreness benefit.
Limitation
Low certainty of evidence, small individual trials, and heterogeneous designs. The intervention is a powered laser or LED aimed at a muscle before exercise, which has little in common with sleeping on a passive fabric.

Light applied to muscle before exercise

What was studied
Ten randomised controlled trials using laser or LED light applied directly to muscle before resistance exercise.
What researchers reported
Across the qualifying trials, light applied before exercise was associated with delayed fatigue onset and improved recovery measures.
Limitation
Few trials met the quality threshold, beam characteristics varied widely, and the review is over a decade old. It studies an active light source on a muscle, not a passive material under a sleeping body.

Regulatory context

Where regulated infrared devices sit, and where this product does not

Regulatory category, not a study

What was studied
The regulation defines an infrared lamp as a device intended for medical purposes that emits energy at infrared frequencies, roughly 700 to 50,000 nanometres, and classifies it as Class II with special controls.
What researchers reported
Infrared technologies intended for medical purposes fall inside a regulated device category. Angel’s Dream is a consumer mattress, is not offered for medical purposes, and is therefore not such a device.
Limitation
A regulation is not evidence of effect. Citing it says nothing about whether any infrared product works, and nothing in it constitutes an endorsement of Green Rest.

What is MedFIR?

MedFIR is the far-infrared technology built into the mattress, in two forms: reactive minerals woven into the cover yarn, and a bio-ceramic layer containing titanium, platinum and mineral microparticles. Both are passive — they use your own body heat and need no power of their own, and neither has a heating element. The three-zone vibration massage is separate and does run from a mains-powered handset. We describe what the material does. We do not claim what it does to your body, because the product-specific research to support that has not been published.

Does it actively heat?

MedFIR has no active heating element. Its mineral and bio-ceramic materials interact with body warmth. The separate vibration system uses an electrically powered handset.

How does the vibration massage work?

An integrated vibration system targets three areas of the body, controlled from a wired handset. It is intended for easing tension — most people use it before sleeping rather than through the night.

What does the research say?

Far-infrared technologies have been studied for post-exercise soreness and recovery, skin microcirculation and skin oxygen readings, mostly in small trials of garments, fabric and patches. Several report positive findings; a 2021 systematic review of far-infrared garments in sport judged the overall evidence not yet conclusive. Powered laser and LED studies are a different modality. Angel’s Dream incorporates passive MedFIR materials. These studies examine related far-infrared technologies and are not clinical trials of the Angel’s Dream mattress.

Has this mattress itself been clinically tested?

We have not identified a published clinical trial of the Angel’s Dream mattress. The studies linked above do not establish clinical outcomes for this product.

What are the trial and warranty terms?

You have 100 nights from delivery. Green Rest asks for a two-week adjustment period before starting a return or exchange, and a claim can be made after 30 nights with proof of regular use. Return packing and shipping are your responsibility, and there are no returns after 100 nights. We would rather you knew that up front than discovered it later. A 25-year limited warranty covering manufacturing defects, faulty craftsmanship and material issues from the date of delivery. It applies to the original purchaser and is not transferable. It does not cover misuse, neglect, improper support, environmental damage, or a change in comfort preference.

How do shipping and financing work?

Free shipping within the contiguous US, by FedEx or UPS ground, usually 4–10 business days. It is delivered to your door or a designated spot — this is not a white-glove in-home setup, so plan for help moving a 14-inch mattress. Green Rest offers financing through Affirm, with prequalification during checkout. Your terms and any monthly amount are set by Affirm based on your application — we do not quote a monthly payment in advance, because we genuinely do not know what you will be offered.
